could be choked vents/fan

happened to my sister's PC. I was tearing my hair out tyring to work out why it was crashing. Since it was cleaned out it has worked perfectly for two more years.

On some tower PC cases there are two sets of vents, one obvious one and a smaller one, less obvious. That was the problem one in this case.

Worth checking before doing anything more drastic.
