do the A428 to the Caxton Gibbet roundabout then swing a right onto the A1198 and pick up the A14 again at Godmanchester

you still have go past the Girton interchange, but it's also much quicker cos you don't have to join the majority of the cars wanting to either follow the A14 or the M11

and if you get peckish, stop at the Chinese at the Caxton Gibbet roundabout cos it's right nice
