The writer seems to think he might be a reformed/reforming character.

Who knows, perhaps the girl he didn't want a "brown" throwback baby with, the fast food jockey he referred to as a "f**king paki", the lad he didn't beat up (even though he parted with muchos dinero to make the problem go away) were all just making it up to get some attention.
