They provided resources for the manager. And the manager spent them on players who didn't work out.
That is the manager's fault and why he was sacked. The Board don't pick the team or determine the tactics. The only mistake you can reasonably charge them with is not getting rid of Worthington last summer rather than wait until October. But I can understand why they made that decision, even if I didn't agree with it. There are alot of chance facors in football, anjd even doing your job perfectly doesn't ensure success when there are teams wity more money than you, and it is easy to use hindsight on past decisions.
The past is dead and gone so it would be nice to see the moaners make positive suggestions about what the Board should be doing NOW and in the future to help the club move forward rather than pointlessly going over old ground.
