I'd imagine it's to do with Earnie's departure.

PG obviously wasn't happy to lose him, so he performed a bit of diligence and found that Dickson also had a buy-out clause. Therefore he seeked to get rid of that by getting the board to sanction an improved contract offer without the clause.

However, Dickson wasn't having any of it.
