Somebody with a better memory than me......1985/86 close season

I have it in mind that the changes then were maybe as sweeping as these now. Someone put me right please?

OK you could google it, but anyone who remembers could contextualise. Me, I'm blank other than a vague recollection. pretty much how I am all of the time.
