You are introduced to the whole concept. Trinity is trapped in a room by a load of cops, she wastes them all with super ninja skills like running up the walls and across the ceiling, and doing kung-fu kicks while the camera freezes the action and revolves around her. Then she runs for her life from the Agents, carrying on doing the physically impossible. Meanwhile Keanu receives mysterious messages on his pooter; he follows them and ends up meeting Trinity. Then he is caught by the Agents and they drop a metal robo-scorpion on his tummy and it enters him via his tummy button, and he can't scream because the Agents have changed his face so he has no mouth. Then he wakes up. By now you have no idea whether he is a druggy, dreaming or what, and nor does he. In the end he discovers that all his life he has been living in "the Matrix", and that the whole world is just a computer simulation produced by machines to keep us happy while our bodies are used by them as batteries. He is broken out of this state and finds himself naked and shaven-headed and dead white in a mass of sticky gloop in a little pod, with loads of wires plugged into him tapping his energy; he is one of millions.
i thought that the whole thing was brilliant: incredibly ingenious plot filmed in what was at the time an incredibly innovative way.
