I liked this bit

“He explained to her that he would kill himself if she ever left him," the prosecution told the court.

Obviously at some point he changed his mind and decided it would be better to kill her instead.

I'm not a criminal lawyer, but I have to say that only 5 years for an attack as bad as that one seems ludicrously low
