as a matter of fact I have no problem with a smooth change in the meaning of words - it's always happened, and a language should be allowed to grow.
It only annoys me when the word's meaning is changed, as in the USA 'momentarily' (and I'm really not sure about the current fad among TV Pundits for using 'fortuitous' when they mean 'fortunate').
So if 'ilk' becomes accepted, then Yay I Like Donuts.
Doughnuts, obviously. Hooray, I have a liking for doughnuts.
