The ability of the club to attract a player of Earnshaw's calibre is attractive to other players, would we have been able to sign Dublin, Croft or Chadwick withour a top striker on the books?

You'll probably say he should've signed someone earlier, or waited to find some young, lower league talent, but there's no guarantee of goals with aplayer like that, there was with Earnie though, enough of a guarantee that you'd take a punt on his goals helping you to promotion, the down-side of that gamble being that if you don't go up you have to sell him for a tiny profit.

I personally think it all make perfect sense from the perspective of both the player and the club.

The profit made (albeit small) has bought Cureton, the rest can go on other aquisitions, and Cureton's wages will be about 30% of what Earnie's been on.
