Don't think we should be overly concerned about Sharp to Sheff Wed

They couldn't afford 50k to keep Maclean there......

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY last night asked Rangers to waive part of the £50,000 they're due for Steve MacLean.

The Ibrox club are entitled to a fee if the striker signs a new deal at Hillsborough and skint Wednesday boss Brian Laws has begged for mercy.

He said: "Steven has said he wants to stay with us but we've hit a bit of a stumbling block.

"You have his agent and his fee, the fee for Rangers and on top of that are his wages.

"You put them all together and all of a sudden it's a hefty wage bill which I don't swallow too easily as it could prevent me from bringing in other players.

"We are trying to talk his agent into being sensible and we've spoken to Rangers about the situation. But if neither of them budges it could scupper the deal."
