No obviously not, you're reading too much into it...

Just we've always had a HUGE reputation for screwing up on pens, and if we coulda just got through this one then it might have at least temporarily got that out of our minds, when was the last time we wont a penalty shoot out? Against Spain in the 96 Euros?? 11 years ago, I dunno about the Under 21s, I'm talking competitive, not like the one they had at Carrow Road the other week.

Just psychologically it would have done us good as a nation to have us win a penalty shoot out. All teams who face instantly have that little extra confidence boost cos we always screw it up, so know they stand a decent chance IF it goes to penalties, therefore breeding confidence among the opposition players rather than our own due to our incredible run of bad luck/lack of composure/whatever when we have to take part in one.
