email is a bad idea

it's too easy to ignore emails. Phoning or going there in person makes it a lot more difficult for them to say no.

And i think if you say you want to know the decision you will put yourself in a weaker position than if you say something like 'i was wondering if you wanted any clarification or concerns about my application'. In a Derren Brown way you are convincing them that they haven't totally made up their minds yet.
