difference between "didn't need to sell" and "didn't want to sell"

I think the £4.5 m would be worth far more to us (assuming we spend it reasonably wisely on players) than Earnie himself is as a player (he's a good player but a bad fit for this team). Maybe Grant feels the same. I never seriously expected us to get any more for him to be honest.
