If Steve McClaren had had the sense

he'd have come out with a statement after one of David Bentley's numerous "I should be in the England squad" saying "I won't pick Bentley until he shuts up, stops trying to put pressure on me to pick him and talks with his feet, not with his chasm-sized gob."

Which might have nipped the whole thing in the bud.
