but my understanding was that most researchers who look at this do not find that grammar schools boost the chances of bright kids from less privilidged backgrounds. Hence even the Tories moving away from selection (as covered yesterday).

As I say, no expert on this. But I certainly don't think it's as black and white as you paint it.
