Its about the size of East Anglia at most I think. But that's not the only reason why

it's easy to travel from here. We also have the second largest airport in Europe (Schiphol) plus ports onto the North Sea, and a pretty comprehensive rail network.

Mind you, if you're driving and not going via France, the quickest route is always the shortest route to a German autobahn and then va va vooooooooom
