Nice thing about living on the continent mainland...we

almost always drive unless it's a short break. You see far more as well. It's so easy to get out of Holland. From Leiden (where I live) you're in Antwerp in 1.5 hrs, Brussels in 2hrs, Paris in 4 to 5 hrs, Duesseldorf in 3, Frankfurt in 4, Berlin in 5, Munich in 7, Salzburg in 8 or 9.

Even Calais only takes about 5 or 6 hrs. Used to drive from home to Norwich in 6 as well, but now the fast ferry has been closed down it's not so convenient. Thank God for FlyBe.

Venice was 11 hrs though to be fair, and that was rather too much at the time.
