We used to get that on NT (the mouse/USB) problem

The f**kwits in IT support used to just reformat and reinstall, despite me telling them it was probably recoverable. Dumb f**ks never installed partitions either, so all our ongoing work would have to go as well - until I forced them to put in the old drive as a slave to a new one and, yes, everything was accessible.
