First bit is spot on I think

International qualifiers are something to be tolerated - even the World Cup. The real recognition (or, more accurately, the real money and glory) lies with playing for their club - especially in the Champs League.

Don't know about the hating each other thing though. I don't think they really care that much apart from the occasional petty rivalries that you get in all walks of life.
