Our first was induced after labour had stopped and started for 48+hrs. Mrs Angler went from one minor contraction in seven to a strong one every two/three minutes. She was unprepared for this and felt she wasn't coping (she was actually coping fine - but had prepared herself for the natural route of contractions gradually getting worse and worse, not the "cliff edge" she faced) to the extent where she needed pethidine more for the anxiety than the pain, really. She's always regretted it, on the grounds that she wasn't really "there" when our firstborn was, well, first born, due to the drugs.
So if they do stick her on a drip, make sure she's prepared for a fairly rapid onset of fairly serious contractions.
Oh, and take shorts with you. Those delivery suites can be quite warm (for the baby's sake).
Good luck!
