once you accept that you place more value on those who share the closest bonds to you, seems to be pretty logical that this 'ordering of importance' extends gradually towards more distant relys, distant friends, acquaintances, neighbours, near-neighbours, fellow village inhabitants, compatriots etc etc.
Most of us feel some sense of kinship with those we live and work amongst. Nothing to be ashamed of in my view - in fact it's probably what makes living in cities work.
