Not really, back in the day (70's) it was accepted as normal vocabulary and nobody

associated it with chaps from Nigeria - don't forget, this is in the era of the Robinson's Golliwog.

Plus - I went to school with a scouser who always used to say "Can I lend your rubber?" instead of "Can I borrow your rubber?".

I always used to reply "Who do you want to lend it too?".

It perplexed him so much he moved to Riley in the Fens, which is one of the most godforsaken places on this earth.

I scared my tits off going to see him there once. Plus, he had taken up ballroom dancing! In the Fens!? For f**k's sake.

I have Sky-Plussed Antiques Roadshow (assuming it was on tonight).
