I didn't bother asking. I really object when a charity gig says 'get sponsorship - we expect £50/£100 to be raised'. You pay to take part, you pay for the t-shirts etc, so they should take whatever sponsorship you raise, not set a flipping minimum amount. Have they never heard of the widow's mite?
