The Lampard/Gerrard thing is annoying but there was (and is) a desperate shortage of quality English players to pick from. Is there anyone that you could honestly say he should have picked that would have turned the team into world beaters.

Last years WC campaign was basically always doomed because the only two remotely world class forwards we had were both injured (Rooney & Owen). There was no-one else who would have given us a shot at winning the thing (Crouch? Defoe? Bent? Don't make me laugh). Miracle we put up as tough a fight as we did if you ask me.
