Misunderstanding of democracy.

Firstly, this isn't a democracy in the truest sense of the word. The rule is not by the demos but by those elected by the demos.

Secondly, once elected the representatives are under no obligation to listen to the people. The people elected them to make the decisions. They did. The difference lies in the free and open nature of the election.
