Trident

Is anyone else a bit pissed off that the two main political parties speak with one voice on the need to blow £[insert large number] billion on replacing Trident with a new nuke?

A nuclear deterrent was (to my mind) a good idea up until about 20 years ago. It now seems utterly unnecessary and pointless, especially given that we won't be allowed to fire it unless the Yanks say we can.

Many, many, many better uses for that money (including, if one is of a miltaristic persuasion) a huge strengthening of the conventional forces.

Unbelievable how being in power changes people's minds - half the current Labour MPs must have been CND beardies, and now look at the flip-flopping tossers.
