As weak as it sounds (especially coming from someone you don't even know) The odds are that you will not be able to get in touch with friends and family for a while as comunication seems to be generally f**ked. But the odds also are that they are fine.

My best friend lives in london and I can't get in touch with him I got a text message from him a little while ago saying he was safe but frightened.

It kind of leaves you feeling completely helpless.
