I am writing to complain about Premium TV's decision to protect the audio and video content with Windows DRM. As an exile from The Fine City and a lifelong supporter of Norwich City, I have been a subscriber for about four years now and apart from intermittent technical problems the service has provided me with
a match day lifeline.
In October 2006, without any warning, they deployed Windows DRM to protect the online video content. Unfortunately, Windows DRM is not licenced for Apple Macintosh computers and therefore I was unable to watch or download it. While unfortunate, this was not the primary reason I subscribed in the first place, so I chose to maintain my subscription (and faithfully renewed it for a further year at the end of 2006) so I could continue to enjoy the live match commentaries.
Today, however, it appears that the streamed audio content has also been similarly protected. Once again, without any warning and at a crucial juncture in the season. Premium TV have, as yet, not responded to my latest complaint. No doubt they will eventually and, perhaps, offer me a refund on my subscription. However, a refund is not what I want! I wish to receive the service I have paid for!
I would ask the club to make representations to Premium TV on behalf of the many Mac users who are now excluded from the sites most interesting content. Moreover, if Premium TV refuse to consider making content available to non-Windows users, I would urge you to consider cancelling your contract with PTV and finding another service provider (perhaps local to Norwich) who are capable of deploying technology available on multiple operating systems.
