Most bars are open until the early hours and you'll always find somewhere open until 5 or 6am.
Guess the sightseeing is mostly obvious, but definitely check out MOMA. Queues might be bad at the Empire State, so get there early!
It's supposed to be much safer in these days of zero-tolerance policing, but I wouldn't go into any of the parks after dark or the subway. The buses are fine though, but if it's still the same system you need exact change or tokens. There are hundreds of taxis, but the drivers are mostly useless and you'll probably have to direct them if where you're going is not a numbered street/avenue. Watch them too, late night, they'll rip you off if you don't know where you're going.
Don't under any circumstances go uptown from the village in the back of a pickup driven at breakneck speed by a drunken Australian. Very uncomfortable I can tell you. Don't drop the black ball from the pool table into the end of the sax player's sax. Don't, just because it's your mates staggy, have a vindaloo in one of the 6th Street curry houses and then a belly full of beer and Southern Comfort - a vindaloo coming out of the nose is not an experience to be repeated.
