Yep...

Famously, Chase and Neal even had a photocall which was meant to herald his arrival (after doing a s**te job with Coventry). Nice guy, and I like his punditry on C5 (he's occasionally appeared on John "er, um, awkward glance at autocue" Barnes' show); crap manager though.

Incidentally, on Worthington: yes, he should've gone much, much earlier than he did; yes, he became a pathetic caricature of himself in his final year or so in charge; yes, we should've stayed up in the Prem; yes, he couldn't change a game; yes, his tactics away from home were often ridiculous.

But he DID do a very good job for us up until Summer 2004, spending money wisely, imposing himself on the board intelligently, and improving us gradually. He was never brilliant, but was just what we needed after all those miserable years of mediocrity (and especially after the Blarneymeister): he went past his sell-by date in the end as most managers do, but that doesn't mean he doesn't warrant a great deal of credit for what he did for us earlier on. He was a preparation manager, basically - and he did that very well, and helped bring us two seasons and a number of wonderful moments we'll remember forever.
