You're talking about nations that have a very long history of corruption. Under those circumstances most leaders are corrupt.

I'd stake my life that if Venezuela had a right wing government it'd be far more corrupt.

Chávez has gone too far with a lot of measures and there is some record of humna rights abuse. He also has far too much power for the country's good, but on the whole, it's better than what awaits the nation on the right.
