Town to host Olympic games?
Town Chief Executive Derek Bowden has reiterated that the Club will make Portman Road available to host matches after London was announced as the venue for the 2012 Olympics.
The capital city beat Paris to host the Games with the verdict made by the IOC in Singapore earlier today.
Portman Road - Olympics' home?
The Club has made it clear previously that the award-winning Portman Road pitch could be used for the Olympic football tournament and Derek told the Club website: "That's certainly still the case, both for games and providing training facilities.
"It was a great honour to host a full England international in 2003 and that proved a real success and to be a part of the Olympic set-up would be a huge bonus for the Club and the people of Ipswich."
It has been reported that Olympic football will be staged around the country with matches said to take place as far as Hampden Park in Glasgow and the Club's successful hosting of England's 3-1 win over Croatia two years ago will have strengthened Town's claims for an Olympic berth.
