Sounds a bit like it was all out of proportion. Can imagine something along the lines of

"You want to score against me ? Well, unlucky cos the gaffer's dropped me. Yeah, couldn't believe it myself. He's also dropped Gary Kelly and (whoever). Gary's a bit peeved."

But Wise's reaction made it sound as though the player faxed the team sheet through to the Palace office.
