Yes, we only made the QF in his 3 big tournaments, but in two of them we only lost on penalties (hardly his fault) and it isn't as though we were knocked out by duff teams. His overall competitive record (including qualifiers) was frankly astonishingly good.
But he's easy for the media to blame, rather than the Big Club players they love to hype up so much. Incidentally, for another example of which, see the BBCs embarrassing efforts to exaggerate the quality of Rooney's goal against Pompey last week. Yes, it WAS good but he was under no pressure whatsoever - among the Goal of the Month contenders shown last night it wouldn't make the top 3 (wasn't remotely close to the Henry or Nugent goals), let alone Goal of the Season (as John Motson tried to proclaim)
