Oh, for heavens sake...

... So what if some of our fans wanted Worthington to stay? Is the board not capable of making a decision by itself, or something? For the record, I wanted him gone after the Luton and QPR games in, oohh, late October I think it was; but it's absolutely ridiculous to blame the KTFers for the fact that Smith and Jones did nothing.

Say what you want about our fans: we moan, we get on the players' backs sometimes, and all the rest of it - but the loyalty shown over the past 18 months has been absolutely astonishing. I can't think of any other club which would serve up so much s**t after coming back down, yet still play to sell-out crowds week after week until very recently. The club are bloody lucky to have us; and if the board is incapable of distinguishing its arse from its elbow, that's its problem, not ours.

Incidentally, don't just look at Southampton: four of the last six clubs to have come down from the Prem are in strong contention for a swift return, and even the fifth, Palace, at least made the play-offs in their first season back down: unlike us. And of those four, three have changed managers, amid nothing like the degree of fuss and 'continuity! We need continuity!' drivel emanating from those at our club who are supposed to show leadership and foresight. That's what's upset so many of us: never mind 'little old Norwich', it's just plain incompetence.

Out of interest, on what authority do you have it that Burley would've come here? I don't think so. He was holding out for a club with a bit of ambition (see what damage self-fulfilling prophecies can do?), and wouldn't have touched us with a bargepole, not least because of his many connections with Ipswich. If the board had done the right and obvious thing, Mike Newell's the sort of guy we'd probably have been in for - but Burley? No chance.
