Oh, and

for restaurants, look around the Zeedijk off the Nieuwemarktplein. Fantastic diversity and mostly at good prices. Cafe Stevens on the Nieuwemarkt also a nice place for drinkies but if you want to act like a tit with Engerlund written all over you then stick to the English and Irish pubs.
