The player we supposedly nearly signed from Prem club, was it

Reto Ziegler.

I know he has only go on loan to Sampdoria initially, but it could become permanent.
Doncaster said the player we were after was sold abroad, so these two dont quite tally up.

But for the life of me I cant think of anyone else?
