Chase was always looking to sell our star players and 're-investment' the money - he was just fortunate that in Dave Stringer, and Mike Walker the first time round, he had managers who were very good at replacing the players who'd been lost with brilliant finds from the lower leagues, and we had a very good youth set-up.
Admittedly Chase didn't hand over enough of the money from the sales of Sutton, Fox, Ekoku, Robins and Culverhouse, but John Deehan didn't spend what money he had as well as Stringer and Walker had done - Chase's business practices hadn't really changed, they were just exposed when the club appointed a manager who wasn't really capable of operating within their limitations.
