I don't think they were too far wrong on what you could earn on contract work. But there, you might spend half of your year chasing work. Which leaves you 125 days actually earning. Giving earnings of ?62k before tax.
And you have to set up a company. And you have to escape the IR35 rulings about proving it's actually a company providing a service, not you providing your labour. Which is a f**ker to do if HMRC get interested.
For the architect job, you're probably aiming at ?75k. Which to give you a comparison, is about what a Director of IT in a medium sized public organisation earns.
