The Nigerian scams are that they win the auction, pay you via Moneygram or something, then say they accidentally overpaid you. They ask you to send back the amount they overpaid, and when you do you find out they never made the original money transfer to you in the first place. So you've lost the money you sent and the item. If you feel this guy is dodgy and you specified only selling to the UK, you should be fine to refuse to sell to him and go to the second highest bidder.
