Good point there CB41, talking about dog breeding...

One of my two dogs is a Border Terrier (a tasty between meals snack for NCFC4Life's Rotty). I've met loads of them and they are ALL lovely dogs - not snappy, yappy or moody. Really teddy-bear types. Only aggression I've seen with mine is with other dogs when another dog starts it.

We met a woman with a Border Terrier in Maastricht and hers went tonto trying to get to my dogs. I was shocked, so asked her about it. It was the absolute perfect image of the border terrier breed standard, but was technically NOT a Border Terrier, and was not allowed to breed, as aggression is against the standard. In fact it's mother was already refused a pedigree because of her aggression and was bred "illegally"and therefore this dog should never have been born.

Amateur breeders do indeed ignore this. It's a very good point. For example, if it were discovered that a dog who had attacked someone had been bred without a pedigree, should the breeders be punished ? Trouble with that is, no mixed-race dogs would ever be allowed to breed and they are sometimes the best.
