Happy New Year to the WoTB and what Grant needs to know

Which is, what he should already know. Which is that no team that purports to be our best should ever contain any one of Hughes, Docherty, Robinson or Etuhu. To play all 4 in the same team is suicide, and should never happen again.

As to the future, we seem to be linked to Riordan, Scott McDonald and Stephen Pearson. My sources in Scotland tell me that we should seriously consider the first 2, but that Pearson is "mince". I did point out that the boy was already playing for Scotland whilst at Motherwell, but my source tells me that he has not progressed at all since joining Celtic. If any of our Scottish residents could confirm or otherwise, I'd be interested.

My source, who is a Jambo, also said that we should have a go for Hartley, not because he wants him to leave, but because he thinks it's inevitable and he'd rather Hartley was in England where he could do no damage to Hearts. Whether we could persuade Hartley to come here is another question, but he would certainly pep up our midfield more than somewhat. I also questioned my source about Russell Anderson, and whilst he thinks he's a good player, he believes the boy will stick with Aberdeen.

It's going to be a tough time for Grant in the window, and I hope he's got the gumption to get rid of crap if he can, but to see the desperate need for 2 mid fielders, a centre forward, a leader at the back and a reserve left back, not to mention a keeper. All WWII I know, but it's got so obvious it needs stating from time to time. And also let's see that we are building a promotion team for next season, as long as we can keep out of the drop zone this season.

My hope is for a nice little cup run, say to the 6th round, and a surge up the table to say about 8th at the end but on a roll for next season. My worry is to find ourselves out of the cup at Tamworth and s**tting bricks at the end of the season a la McGovern at Tranmere.
