They don't actually need to give an opinion.

All they need to do is ask questions. Ferguson has to make a case when he signs a player - why is that system not good enough for us? Worthington was given latitude to spend his massive budget exactly as he wanted - with the result being what we saw today. They could have asked for instance, why he wanted to sign both Hughes and Jarrett when he felt that they could not play in the same team. Or why a Premiership side needed 4 goalkeepers and 0 right wingers. Or how he was going to get the best out of Earnshaw when the money to buy a target man to go alongside him was pissed away on the likes of Rehman and Johannson.
