They've arrested the wrong man!
Definite info, just been told this by my informant.

This Stephens bloke is one of those loners who make things up in order to be arrested and recognised. Many mental patients admit to crimes they haven't done.

He will be released by the end of the day but you will not hear this as the police are worried about his safety.
