I worry now that Monty will get a game eventually but will be under such enormous pressure at this stage it will affect his performance. We've been down this path of bits'n'pieces cricketers before (remember Mark Ealham and the era he played Test cricket in) and it's never worked.
I think Geoff Boycott has it right: pick your six best batsmen, your four best bowlers and your best 'keeper, and only change that XI if there's a *really* good reason, and you won't go far wrong. By that logic Read and Panesar would have started over Giles and Jones any day. Easy now with hindsight but I was saying the same before the series started.
