after another shocking performance yesterday.
I feel sad first, that this board has so little football nous. I don't think they have INTENTIONALLY let us down, they have done what they thought was right but they have just screwed up.
But I feel angry, too. Mainly with Worthington and the lazy dishonest players we have gathered in the last two or three years. He was never (and I have posted this before) and never will be a good manager. He got lucky and was found out. When his luck ran out he arrogantly presided over the most rapid decline in a club I think I've ever seen. He took his fat cheques and banked them week in week out whilst watching our club fall to pieces. Then he walked away with a 600k pay-off. Well that's football, we hear. You rape a club for whatever you can then go on holiday before doing it all over again. What you never do (why not?) is admit you're not up to it, say thank you and show true honesty.
But perhaps some of the players are even worse. They take their money, get in their flash cars and live in their big houses whilst often barely even trying. They come out with platitudinous crap in the press and then go and do the same thing all over again. In one game Luke Chadwick showed more honesty than many players I have seen in the yellow and green in the last two or three years. He cares, I reckon. Huckerby cares, so do Earnshaw and one or two others (Fleming in the past, Drury sometimes, Dublin maybe, Shackell)) but as for almost all the rest they can go for me. We could replace them all with players from lower leagues who would want less money and would show us they appreciate the chance to play for a once great club.
Honestly I think we have been treated appallingly by the likes of Thorne, Hughes, Doherty, McVeigh, Henderson, Jarvis, Stuart(!), Rehman, Safri, Etuhu, Robinson the list goes on. Their attitude is tantamount to theft. They and their agents represent all that is bad about a sick game where you can earn massive salaries despite being inept. And there is (apart from us fans) no accountability. If the club said 'we aren't paying you this week because you didn't try' Gordon Taylor (salary about 600k a year) and his PFA cronies would be in like a shot. It's a sad fact that a club which probably really has tried to mix 'prudence with ambition' has been reduced to utter mediocrity by Worthington and the bunch of lazy freeloaders he has signed.
Whether our gobby new manager has any real idea or not we don't know. It was in many ways a ridiculous appointment. Imagine Delia asking somebody with no experience at the top to run one of her top restaurants. Give him a cafe first, maybe, but not a top job. He appears to have few man management skills but we have no option but to give him a chance. He might turn out to be brilliant and realise his ambition of managing Celtic but it sure as hell isn't going to happen soon. It's very clear already that he has everything to learn about handling tactics (Stoke!), supporters, press and players.
We are not going up this year or anytime soon. I have supported City for 40 years and I don't mind waiting another five while we cut out the lazy, overpaid deadwood and rebuild from the bottom. Because make no mistake that is what Grant has to do. I'd love to know what he really thinks of his players because if he IS honest then he must admit that most of them do not CARE about Norwich City Football Club. If HE does care he has to show them the door ASAP and find some people who do. I am fed up to the back teeth of reading and hearing dishonest people spouting crap they don't mean - I want some HONESTY!
Rant over. OTBC
