Spot On-Good Post...

You're absolutely right. I remember getting excited about the FA Cup final being "live" on TV in the days and weeks beforehand, as it was only one of 3-4 games that were "live" regularly per year! Strangely enough, the England vs Scotland schoolboys international was one of the others! Then I think there was England vs Scotland and the (then) European Cup final-that was it, even if it was a WC/EC year, only the best games were transmitted live.

So football was exciting, not the match, but the whole "event" aspect of it. Turning up outside the players entrance behind the River End at 1:00, getting Bertschins autograph for the 20th time, reading the programme, going in as soon as you could and standing, chatting to friends and watching to see what was happening.

As you said, its turn up at ten to three now, watch the game, go home and grumble-its almost like going to work and, at times, just as frustrating and painful!
