pants is an expert at the 'straw man' tactic

set up the opposing view (even if there isn't really one) as the most extreme, intemperate and illogical position you possibly can. Then proceed to knock it down angrily.

To be fair, it's a standard wotb gambit. But pants is the finest exponent of it.
