Muse...

I've had a listen to this Black Holes and revelations album too. It's OK, though as cheesy as f**k at times: but I'm wondering if I've missed some of their better work.

Thing is, I remember when they were quite new, and I thought they were f**kawful to the power of the highest number imaginable - and therefore whenever any radio DJ said sommat like "And here's something from the latest Muse album...." I'd be scrabbling with the tuning buttons with the desperate air of the bird-in-the-movie-trying-to-escape-the-axe-murderer, except with louder screams. But I saw this album advertised on telly (which used to be the absolute guarantee of a sack of bollocks but isn't any more, necessarily) and they didn't sound so bad. OK the guy still wails, but nowadays he's wailing like Thom Yorke, or like the bloke out of Sigur Ros, instead of merely wailing like a c**t as he used to. When did he stop doing that? Time was I'd cheerfully have throttled the f**ker.

So the album: unnnnnhhhhh.... it's OK. Cheeeeesy in places, A-Ha in one place. But I'm wondering: do they sound less bad than they used to because they've improved/grown up/stopped the singer wailing like a c**t, or is it just that they sound better because there's so much more rank garbage on the radio these days?
